Understanding Dietitian Services and Medicare Rebates

  • Do I need a referral to see a dietitian?

No, a referral from your doctor is not required to see a dietitian. However, if you wish to claim Medicare rebates, a referral is necessary (click here).

  • What are Medicare rebates for dietitian services?

Medicare offers rebates for dietitian services under certain conditions, particularly for patients with chronic health conditions. To be eligible, you must have a referral from your GP and meet specific criteria outlined by Medicare. The current rebate is $61.80 per session, with up to 5 sessions allocated per year (Click here)

  • How can I access dietetic services through NDIS?

As a registered NDIS provider, Gympie Dietitian offers tailored nutrition services for NDIS participants. You can access these services by including them in your NDIS plan and discussing your needs with your support coordinator.

  • What should I bring to my dietitian appointment?

It's helpful to bring any relevant medical history, a list of medications, and any previous dietary assessments. This information will assist your dietitian in creating a personalised nutrition plan.
